It's not that they’re fearful of making money or getting clients, the biggest fear seems to be around being judged or trying and then failing. But it’s impossible to sit on the sidelines waiting for the fear to go away. This post will give you some inspiration on feeling the fear and getting out there anyway!

Feeling Your Fear And Getting Yourself Out There Anyway

Fear is a topic that I think we should be discussing more and to help kickstart a conversation.

I want to start off by sharing something that happened between a mentor and me a while ago. I was insulted at the time, but later learned what she meant by it. In the context of me discussing my business, my mentor said to me, “Amanda, you're not that special.” I’m sure you can see how I was insulted, and I’ll come back to the true meaning behind this statement soon, but I first wanted to say to my readers that unfortunately, you’re not that special, either.

Over the years, I have noticed there's a lot of fear people are holding onto around putting themselves out there in their business and in public. It's not that they’re fearful of making money or getting clients, the biggest fear actually seems to be around being judged or trying, and then failing.

This fear can become so intense that what happens is we don't take action at all because we don't want to find out what will happen - we're simply too scared of being judged or failing (or both) that we would prefer to do nothing than to try to achieve success.

But the important thing is that we move forward.

So, if you're sitting there in fear as I know a lot of people are, I want you to know, with love and respect, that you're not special.

We all feel fear. I feel fear all the time. I see that a lot of my colleagues and my peers feel fear. Even the world's top entrepreneurs feel fear. You're not that special. What will make you special, however, is not allowing your fears to paralyze you and giving yourself the freedom to go after what you know in your heart is really for you.

I have taught a lot about the inner work, spiritual work and mindset work that we often have to do to improve ourselves and our personal circumstances. But what I've seen that can end up being paralyzing is the idea that we first need to go and fix ourselves in preparation for facing our fears.

It doesn't work that way. I see clients go off and start doing more mindset work because think they need to be healed first and are waiting for the perfect day when they're not going to be scared. It just doesn't happen.

The fear goes away only when you get in the game.

Of course, the more you put yourself out there, the more the potential is there for you to be judged. You learn to be ok with that when you understand that other people always have their opinions.

Others will always have their own perceptions and there's nothing you can do about people judging you. They will judge you if you do it or if you don't do it, so you might as well be true to yourself.

If you do feel passionately about getting your work out to the world or feel as though you've got a message or something that you want to pass on to others, you really have no choice but to step into the ring, to get in the game and start putting yourself out there.

Brene Brown has a wonderful quote:

If you're not in the arena also getting your ass kicked, I'm not interested in your feedback.

Maybe that's something that will help you with the fear: deciding that you’re only going to listen to people's feedback with judgment if they too are being brave and getting in the ring.

The piece that I want to tack on the back of that is once we've realised that we're in control of ourselves and that everybody has fears, you have a choice.

You can either take action or you can sit on the sidelines forever waiting for that fear to go away.

And if sitting on the sidelines hasn't worked for you so far in life, it’s probably not going to change. There's no middle ground, so if you think you're sitting in the middle ground, you're actually sitting on the sideline.

Tips For Feeling The Fear And Taking Action Anyway:

  • Surround yourself with those who are doing what you want. It's the shortest shortcut ever to rewiring these thought patterns, the fears in our brain. (Come join the Healthy Wealthy Society!)

  • Don't let the fear of being judged, paralyze you, or stop you from going after what you know in your heart and in your gut is real for you.

  • Get in the game - the fear goes away when you realize that the worst-case scenario doesn't come true.

  • Ignore any criticism or feedback from anyone not putting themselves out there like you are.

  • Read Susan Jeffers’s book, Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway.

You have the choice, and you have the power to make that choice. So, stop living in fear!

Love,

Amanda xx
