How the Health Coaching Industry Has Changed FOREVER
I was reflecting this morning with my journal and my coffee on how the pandemic we're currently facing has really changed the health coaching industry forever.
My husband and I were talking the other day about the yellow pages ads. Does anyone remember those? The whole “let your fingers do the walking” thing? There was a time, not that long ago, if we needed something, we had to find out local, especially if it was a service. And there were, of course, some exceptions to things that could be done over the phone. But for the most part, especially in the health space, you could only really serve people if you were in a local area.
Everything has now been forced online.
Over the past 10 years or so, the shift to online has been fast in some areas of our lives and slower in others, and health coaching has seen an interesting evolution over this time. We were still trying to sell or convince people into the benefits of coaching online with us. Some people were still really quite worried that people would prefer to work with them in person or online. Often, I'd hear people say, “Well, in my town, there are not enough people to work with me.”
And we weren't so open, even though we wanted to work online, we weren't so completely open to it yet. Almost overnight, everything has now been forced online and it's become our new normal, which is very, very positive for health coaching.
People have become more concerned about health.
But it's not just the delivery of information that's changed. There have been some other interesting observations unfolding over the last couple of months. Suddenly, the need for health coaching, immune-boosting wellness, people wanting to be proactive in their health is on top of people's minds.
We realized now more than ever the truth, that if we don't have our health, we don't really have anything.
Like never before, people are realizing and waking up to wanting to take a lot of self-responsibility in the area of their health, and how vulnerable we really are to our health.
Working from home has become mainstream.
Another thing that has shifted massively is that working online has just become mainstream. We had friends here last night, we're allowed now, and we were reflecting on, will people be going back to their jobs or will they stay working from home?
So a lot of people we were talking about the trust factor of employee employers actually that people used to work from home. It wasn't so trustworthy back then because people did not do a full day's work. Whereas now, people have actually learned to work from home and be more productive. The whole way that we are working has just changed so radically. And a lot of people, maybe yourself, are also realizing you like working from home, not commuting and don't want to go back to your office either.
Finding clients online, willing to work on something as per as their health online, has often been quite a frustration for health coaches building their businesses. But this has all changed rapidly.
People have suddenly been forced to get comfortable with it. And even maybe enjoying not going out and realizing how much they were running around to appointments and shopping and all these things when they can just do it from the comfort of their home.
Being at home, both for you and for your clients is a really, really positive thing as you start growing your online health coaching business.
Also with working from home or people working from home, it's actually easier for them to schedule the 45-minute appointment in the middle of the day. It doesn't have to be something that they have to do in the evenings or weekends. So this is really positive for us as well. And a lot of these patterns are going to stick or people are going to be wanting to bring them into their lives.
The current situation is reminding us that now is the time to step up.
This all means there's never been a better time in our history to be building a health coaching business online. It's just such a beautiful coming together of what people are wanting, our own desires, of how we want to work, how we want to serve. Now is your time, it really is.
I'm obviously always here. I can hear you probably already saying, “This is all well and good in theory, but how do I actually get started taking advantage of the current situation?”
I don't mean taking advantage of it in a negative way. Use it as fuel for you to step into your business because you know, there are people out there that you can be helping now and all of this, everything in starting your business starts with getting super clear, first of all, who your target market is, and then how you can best help them. That's always your first two steps if you're just getting started.
This isn't just a way that serves your potential clients but also serves YOU and the type of business you want to create. We are building burnout-free businesses here. Think about the next five years, 10 years, what are you creating as your way of bringing in money and of being of service in your life work as you move forward? And how are you feeling about doing that?
Love,
Amanda xx
