How To Get Ideal Clients To Say YES! To Working With You

As a health coach, when it comes to getting paying clients you might sometimes feel like you are trapped with two crappy options.

The first option is luck and hoping that a follower will pop into your DMs saying they want to work with you, and the second is the sales approach that can make you feel pushy and sleazy.

Well, I am here to tell you that there is a third option that requires neither luck nor aggression, but it does take leadership and connection.

Does the idea of being a leader bring up any doubts or fears?

Well, here’s the thing, you are already a leader.

As entrepreneurs, we are all leaders. We have to be, otherwise, why would our clients and communities trust and follow us?

They are already looking to you for how you can help them on their wellness journey. Your job now is to tell your audience how you can help them by consistently owning your expertise, educating your audience on how you can help them and, what I call “asking for the dance”, which is inviting people to discovery sessions or consults.


When you help your client understand what you can do for them, trust me, they will ask for that help when they know they can do so.


So, how do you own your expertise? Here are my tips: 

1) Be clear and direct about what you do


Use your content, to be clear and direct about what you do. The more specific you are, the more trust you will build with your ideal clients.

When your message is vague or murky, that's when people start to feel doubt, sometimes they even feel suspicious. Your ideal client will relate more closely to you when you are being clear about their specific pain points and the specific outcomes that are important to them.

If you promise to help with absolutely everything it can come across as unrelatable, inauthentic and even untrustworthy. Being more specific is going to resonate more.

For example, if you say you can help people to get better sleep, that will resonate with someone who feels like they don’t sleep or someone who feels tired right then. The language you use can help you to connect with your ideal clients. 

Start by practising saying what you do. Here’s a phrase you can use:

I help [insert ideal client] with [insert problem] to [insert solution].

You just literally need to fill in the gaps. Remember to be specific, really specific.

2) Be clear and direct about how people can work with you

If your goal is to work with clients, you have to be willing to take it one step further from just posting free and helpful content. You have to actually tell people how you will work with them as a coach. You're going to have to tell your audience how to get in touch with you.

Tell them what to do, don't make them guess, try to work it out themselves or assume they know how. Make it as easy as possible for people to reach out.

Very few people will take the initiative without you first giving them directions. You need to be the leader and tell them exactly what they need to do to reach out and get your help to make a change in their life.

Maybe it’s getting them to DM you, send you an email, jump on a call or something else? Clearly direct them and make it so they don’t have to go searching for anything to get in touch.


3) Ask for the dance

This is simply asking people directly to book a discovery call or a consultation with you and it's a crucial step in any new coaching business.


A discovery call (or a discovery session or a sales call) is the best way to know if a potential client is going to be a fit to work with you and get results with you.

It’s different from a health history that some health coaching schools teach. I prefer to call it a discovery session because the conversation is focused on figuring out the best way that you will help a potential client.


The formula for getting your ideal clients saying “yes!”

So, using everything we have already spoken about, this is your formula for getting your ideal clients excited to work with you and saying a huge “YES!” to becoming your client:

Post specific, high-quality content

+

Ask for the dance (aka promote your discovery calls)

=

New clients

That is one of the mathematic formulas that works in a health coaching or wellness business where you are working 1:1 with clients. But the key step is to ask, ask, ask. You have to be asking people if they would like to do these calls.

You might not be able to control how people respond when you ask, but you do have the power in ensuring that you ask and you also get to choose how frequently you do it. You have control over that in regularly letting people know what you do and how they can work with you.

That is exactly how you lead people to that next step of their transformation (hopefully working with you!).

In life in general, someone always has to lead, and in this instance for your business, it needs to be you. If you want consistent clients, you have to take the lead. Put yourself out there, be the leader and ask for the dance daily.
