In this post: Visibility is not to be taken lightly. It’s a BIG requirement when you run your own health coaching business! And it's a BIG barrier for a lot of aspiring health coaches.
I would go so far as saying that harbouring resistance towards visibility — and being scared of being SEEN online, and in-person, and on social media — is the #1 reason why most new health coaches won’t or don’t succeed in building their businesses.
Social Media is the platform we have to build our businesses on. For better or for worse. It’s SUCH a powerful and potent tool to leverage, and it’s largely FREE!! And as business owners, we HAVE to be seen!
How to Blast Through Your Fear of Showing up & Being Seen Online
Hello, how is everyone getting on today? I just got off a two-hour laser coaching call with our current UPswing Mastermind students. Super, super fun call. And I thought I'd just pop in and share a couple of insights that we were talking about on today's laser coaching.
First of all, I think what stands out for me from the call is what can often come up when we start to really put ourselves out online. If we look at the process that the ladies in the UPswing Mastermind have been through over the last couple of months, is that they've got their target market very, very clear that perhaps we'll package that pricing, their blueprints, the sales calls. And almost everybody in that class has paying clients in the first couple of months, which is absolutely awesome and phenomenal. The group has just stepped into a major social media training as well, and there's a lot of social media training going on in their 30-day challenge to get themselves out there.
One of the main things that I noticed was that when it comes to the crunch, as such of putting ourselves out there with our new social plans and everything, we can hit resistance. And I thought that maybe some of you might also be hitting resistance after creating the content. So I thought I'd talk about that.
Resistance tends to come in so many forms. But why does it come? It comes around being seen, largely. And for some people, it's more of a fear of being seen by mom, dad, sisters, brothers, family, friends, people we went to school with, people we know, etc. And for other people, it's more a fear of being seen by people that we don't know. Give me a yes, if that's you. Let me know which camp do you fall into? Are you more worried when you post online that you're going to be judged by immediate family, friends, people we went to school with, people you work with or are you more worried about being judged?
Most of us fall into one of these tasks. And so what we talked about in the UPswing Mastermind today was that actually, if we're falling into either of those camps, it's where we're going wrong. We need to be creating our social media only for our ideal client, only for our single ideal client. And one thing I see is people start creating the content for other health coaches, for other practitioners in their mind. They're comparing, "What are they going to think when they see it?" Or subconsciously, we're creating it for people we know we're trying to please everyone with our content.
Our content on social media should only ever be created for one ideal client. And this is why I see people going into fear and resistance.
This is why if we don't have that foundational pillar of target markets super tight, we will not succeed in putting our socials out there. Luckily, for the girls in UPswing Mastermind, this is a reminder for me to say, now go back to your target market and go back to the work we did and check. But I wanted to reiterate to everyone, I talk about target market a lot, and I think it's easy to go, "Yeah, I already know that, I work with someone who wants to lose weight" or something. The target market work that I do in the mastermind is so different to what's taught anywhere else. It's very, very specific. And I don't believe that without that pillar foundation, it's really possible to learn how to communicate what you do in a way that people will understand or create social media content just for that one person or ideal client. So I wanted to remind us that it's one thing to know how to create pillar content and one thing to know the tactics on the top, but we do need to have this layer locked in and tightened.
As I said to the girls on today's training, I don't think you'll ever stop hearing me say, "Target market, target market, target market!" ever. It is the number one thing that is most important in any business that succeeds and it is the number one difference of people who are getting paying clients. And it's the number one thing that I work on in my business to this day. So there is no way that you can ever have completed it in any form. It's something that you need to be working on all the time. It's a real specialty in what I teach. It's why I believe we get such great results as we are with everyone in the mastermind now. I'm having discovery calls booked, most having clients.
It really, really comes down to this pivotal, foundational understanding of target market.
And then there are things like if we start getting resistance, putting ourselves out online, as we talked about today, it comes down to nine times out of 10 that you're either not talking to your target market, accidentally or subconsciously trying to impress and talk to others. Or worry about what others think. Or that the content hasn't been created specifically for those things that we've identified that ideal client wants to see and wants to learn from and wants to buy online.
I probably can't ever say it enough — Target market is the single most important thing that every health coach must have in place.
If this piece isn't nailed in, a target market is not just one in a 35 with kids and a job. It includes your whole gamut, your whole toolbox of understanding how to communicate in a specific way, how to take someone on a journey from a pain point to an outcome — you need those pieces in place to make a package and then your blueprint, and then obviously to be able to go out online in social.
So I thought I'd just write about this while we just got off the call as a reminder that the foundations absolutely are always what needed to be in place even if we're finding something, like a personal inner resistance around putting ourselves out. Nine times out of 10, it comes back to that foundational pillar. We can't have the shiny, above the water iceberg if we haven't built these in a certain order.
So I hope that's helpful. It's a little bit kind of a left out topic, I guess, of why resistance actually comes back to target market. But yeah, I'm super, super excited to see everyone in the mastermind. You know, I get to see what they're doing. I don't get to see what all of you are doing as much with your socials. You will need to really lock in the target market, the communication, the packages. Socials alone will never get you clients without those foundational pieces.
